Job Description:
We are seeking a dedicated Veterinary Assistant to join our dynamic team.
This role is pivotal in supporting our veterinarians and veterinary technicians with the day-to-day care of pets at our facility.
The ideal candidate will have a passion for animal welfare, possess excellent communication skills, and be eager to contribute to a positive and effective team environment.
Responsibilities:
Assist veterinarians and veterinary technicians in medical procedures and treatments.
Handle and restrain animals safely and compassionately during examinations and procedures.
Prepare and maintain the cleanliness of exam rooms, surgical areas, and animal holding areas.
Provide basic care to pets, including feeding, watering, and walking animals as needed.
Administer medications and vaccines under the direction of a veterinarian.
Assist with the collection of samples such as blood, urine, or tissue for testing.
Maintain accurate and detailed medical records.
Communicate effectively with pet owners, providing updates on their pet's status and care instructions upon discharge.
Participate in client education on various aspects of pet health.
Assist with inventory management and the ordering of medical supplies.
Follow all safety and sanitation policies to ensure a clean and safe environment for all pets and staff.
Qualifications:
High school diploma or equivalent.
Previous experience in a veterinary clinic or animal care setting is preferred.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
Ability to work well in a fast-paced environment.
Physical ability to restrain larger pets safely.
Basic understanding of veterinary medical terminology and procedures.
Flexibility to work weekends, evenings, and some holidays as required.
